If you love art, don't hesitate to book your ticket to The King's Gallery, the exhibition space located at the entrance to Holyroodhouse Palace, the official residence of the British monarchy in Scotland.
The King’s Gallery
The King’s Gallery, named after the coronation of Charles III (it was previously known as The Queen’s Gallery), is an exhibition space that forms part of the Holyroodhouse Palace complex: His Majesty’s official residence in Edinburgh.
The King’s Gallery, dedicated primarily to art and heritage, was built on the site of a former church and school dating back to the 1840s. However, the project to create an art gallery that would complement the original 19th-century architecture began in 1999.
In November 2002, as part of the celebrations for her Golden Jubilee, Queen Elizabeth II inaugurated this art gallery.
Currently, The King’s Gallery does not have a permanent collection but instead hosts a program of temporary exhibitions from the Royal Collection. These exhibitions include paintings by Old Masters, valuable furniture, decorative arts, and images from an extensive photographic collection.
Temporary Exhibition: The Edwardians: Age of Elegance
Until December 6, 2026, you can enjoy a major temporary exhibition titled The Edwardians: Age of Elegance at The King’s Gallery.
This exhibition explores the glamorous world of two of Britain’s most elegant royal couples: King Edward VII and Queen Alexandra, on the one hand, and King George V and Queen Mary, on the other. The exhibition focuses on their family ties, royal events, travels around the world, and passion for art collecting.
Following its successful run in London, the exhibition brings together more than 150 items, including clothing, paintings, and books, as well as personal belongings such as jewelry, photographs, and tableware. More than half of the items are on display in Scotland for the first time.
In addition, you’ll be able to view works from the Royal Collection created by some of the most celebrated names of the era, such as Fabergé, Tiffany & Co., and Edward Burne-Jones.
